TONS to update on today!

First of all, how crazy is the Jian Ghomeshi drama?! We can’t really believe it’s happening, but will definitely miss him hosting the Giller Prize Gala. However… Rick Mercer is a totally awesome second choice.

And now for the last month’s links!

Emily shared this awesome list of must-read banned books. Who knew September 21-27 is Banned Books Week? We did not. Also, it’s completely shocking what gets banned these days.

Alyssa shared what her husband James Franco has been reading lately… for his “oral exams” in English literature at Yale. Yup. How many have you read?

We laughed our butts off over this, and reminisced about what a great pick Let’s Pretend This Never Happened was. Hats off, Kristina!

Sarah found this piece from the Huffington Post where the author’s book club read 200 books and then listed their six favourites.  Potential future UBC picks? I think yes.

After last month’s meeting, we took in Gone Girl on the big screen, which generated some interesting debates and discussions. This article from The New Yorker was particularly interesting, especially how it compared Gone Girl to We Need to Talk About Kevin. My personal favourite quote from the article:

“Gone Girl” is as much about the near impossibility of being a good husband as it is about the anguish of being a good wife.

Otherwise, we’ve been keeping a pretty low profile, and scurrying to finish October’s pick, In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. This is the first true crime book we’ve ever read and so far it’s well-written and really juicy!

What are you reading this fall?
